The 2017-2018 school year has been a very successful year for Delgany NS!
Representatives from the senior classes (3rd – 6th) took part in four cross country competitions against other Wicklow primary schools throughout the year held in Avondale and at the Shoreline Athletics Track. We had pupils competing in all the events including high jump, long jump, javelin, sprinting, relay races and long distance running.
At the Avondale events both the 6th class girls team and the 6th class boys team came second in their respective relays. The 4th class girls team (Amelia, Gaelle, Helena and Isabelle) won gold in their relay.
We also had a number of successful wins in May in Charlesland. They are as follows:
Hamish (6th class) – gold medal in the javelin event.
Ben G (4th class) – gold medal in the long jump
Gaelle (4th class) – silver medal in the long jump
Helena (4th class) – gold medal in the 100m sprint
Helena (4th class) – gold medal in the 500m sprint
Gaelle (4th class) – silver medal in the 100m sprint
4th class girls relay team (Chloe, Gaelle, Helena and Isabelle) – gold medal in the relay
The girls from 3rd – 6th were also awarded a shield for the best overall girls team at the competition.
This year some of the boys from 4th – 6th class also had golf lessons. These were provided outside of school time. A team was then chosen to represent the school at two golf competitions. These events were very much enjoyed by those who took part.
We also have both girls and boys hockey teams and this year both our senior girls and our senior boys hockey teams placed third in their respective leagues.
The senior boys football team came second in both their cup and their league, reaching the finals on both occasions, and have played fabulously all year.
Finally, we are delighted to announce that our cricket team won the inaugural Wicklow School’s Cricket Competition in June!
