4th class have started a unit on transport. They have been exploring water transport. They linked their study of water transport to the science of forces. The pupils made boats out of paper (these were tricky!) and had races across the ‘Delgany NS canal’ using the force of wind (blowing). It was great fun!

The pupils then studied friction and its advantages and disadvantages. To further investigate friction the students used toy cars and a ramp and different surfaces. The surfaces used were the floor of the classroom (lino), a mat and a fluffy carpet. The students predicted which surface would have the most friction and slow the car down the fastest. They then tested each surface and recorded the results. They found that the lino had the least friction and the fluffy rug had the most friction.
