Our farewell celebrations to 6th class were like nothing we have ever experienced before. On the 29th June 2020 at 6p.m. the 6th Class and staff took part in a memorable and special graduation ceremony. Due to social distancing and restrictions the ceremony took place in the school carpark. The parents and the children parked their cars in the inner and outer carparks. Mrs Ovington welcomed the assembled families and the ceremony began. Speeches and presentations made by Mrs Ovington, Mr Lawson and Mrs Gilmore were greeted by honking horns in place of applause! The 6th class children then made their way from the carpark to the school where they were presented with gorgeous goodbye goodie bags.

The goodie bags contained a t-shirt, 6th class & Junior Infant photograph, certificate and quote from the school and beautiful gifts from the parents of a Yearbook and Owl word art. Both the t-shirts and bags were decorated with children’s own artwork and all the gifts will make a lovely keepsake to remember their time in D.N.S. The P.A. had purchased creme eggs for an Easter Egg hunt which unfortunately had to be cancelled but lucky for the 6th class they were going out of date in July so these were added to their loot!

Thank you to the sixth class parents for donating the following wonderful gifts to the school: sports tops, the book ‘The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse’ by Charles Mackesy and a framed print from the book.

I think everyone present was thrilled to have been able to mark 6th Class graduation 2020 in such a memorable and historical way.

That evening two lovely powerpoints were emailed to the parents one of special messages from the staff and one with photos of the children now and when they were younger.

We wish all our sixth class all the best for the future and wish them every success in their new secondary schools: Coláiste Chraobh Abhann, Greystones Community College, East Glendalough, Loreto Bray and Templecarrig.
