Dr. Emma Stringer, a lecturer in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in TU Dublin (and Bella’s mum!), came in to talk to Junior and Senior Infants about engineering in April. She discussed with the pupils what an engineer is and what an electrical engineer does. Emma demonstrated the importance of giving clear instructions and then linked this to the Ozo robots and their programming language. She then showed the pupils the app on the ipad where they could give instructions to an Ozo robot. Emma had brought along a visual map to use and the children were challenged to give the Ozo robot the correct instructions to get from the dragon to the star. Along the way they also got to add in some cool light effects like police lights and rainbow lights! The pupils were really engaged in the activity and thoroughly enjoyed Emma’s visit.
